The Children’s Center of the Antelope Valley
- To promote healing and provide protection from abuse through education and expert care for children and families in the Antelope Valley
- The local need is far greater than most people are aware of. Did you know that 20% of children in the Antelope Valley are reported for maltreatment before age 5? Did you also know that 50% of young adults aged out of foster care in LA County end up either homeless or incarcerated? Enough is Enough!
- Survivors of child abuse are 9x times more likely to engage in criminal activity. These individuals may also be at greater risk for a myriad of problems including low academic achievement, drug use, and teen pregnancy. This not only significantly affects the child and family, but society as a whole.
Jacob Hefter Foundation
Jacob Hefter was a young man that had great ambitions along with a deep passion and respect for life. Jacob believed in sharing his love of life with others and helping them to make positive choices. He was actively involved in his community on numerous levels and was dedicated to his family, friends, and schoolwork.
On September 12, 2008, someone made the selfish decision to text while operating a train. Jacob’s life was taken by that choice, a choice which resulted in a deadly Metrolink train crash. In Jacob’s memory, a foundation was started, dedicated to raising awareness about distracted driving and provide assistance to our community’s youth.
The mission of the Jacob Hefter Foundation is to provide assistance to young adults in their pursuit of higher education, who have displayed characteristics of leadership, integrity, and ambition, while at the same time maintaining a clear focus towards their goals, as well as supporting the community and raising awareness regarding positive choices and promoting healthy lifestyles, and emphasizing the important practice of safe driving.
